2020, A Bad Dream

Living in a pandemic, I have to admit, has its ups and downs. Sometimes my day is ok…it’s not so bad. I’ve done everything possible to keep myself busy because staying busy usually helps to keep my spirits up. I am better adapting to the situation everyday little by little. In order to get through the day I remind myself how blessed my life is. But, out of nowhere, the depression creeps in. It helps to tell myself, this is the world we live in right now and we are all in this together, right? But, ultimately, 2020 is like a bad dream.

Is this the world our kids will grow up in? Hatred seems like a common thing nowadays, esp. on Facebook. People are lashing out, complaining- and hey I get it, life is tough right now. We all have our struggles and we all deal with it differently. No one knows the right thing to do. The government is giving advice but they’re not perfect either. But, given a choice of listening to the government and possibly controlling the trajectory or doing your own thing and allowing the virus to grow uncontrollably, which would you choose? If there were a way, like- wearing a mask to protect others who will have it worst, would you be willing to do it? Keeping distance from your senior parents, esp if your kids are exposed to other people on a daily basis. If you or your kids have the virus (even with no symptoms)- the longer you are with them- the more likely they will eventually get it. So why take the risk? Don’t let them take care of your kids because you need to work. Find other ways! They need to survive this pandemic too. They need to live through this.

And why is it all about the government controlling us? All these conspiracy theories, I’m certain the government is hiding an alien somewhere in area 51. But why can’t people see that the virus is real? And it’s killing people. Isn’t it being compassionate about the elderly and the immune compromised? Why just think about yourself and your comfort.

And we have racism, its real and it’s been around for a long time! I’m sure the people who don’t see it won’t complain about it. But lets put ourselves in the shoes of people who do experience it on a daily basis. I’m sure it’s difficult. Heck, I have experienced it traveling a few times. What do we teach our kids? Why can’t we just be kind to everyone? But now people are openly hurting others. These are just crazy times right now. Navigating in this world we live is not easy. I hope we can all be understanding and supportive to our little community. And start there, maybe we can eventually make a better place for us and our kids future.
